Deposed Venezuelan President Maduro Pleads Not Guilty in US Court

Kathmandu. Nicolas Maduro Guerra, the son of deposed Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, has called for international solidarity to ensure his parents' return to Venezuela.

He described the arrest of his father, Nicolas Maduro, and mother, Cilia Flores, by the United States as a "kidnapping." Addressing the National Assembly of Venezuela on Monday, Maduro Guerra stated that the military operation conducted by US forces in Caracas two days ago to arrest the couple was a serious attack on Venezuela's sovereignty. He warned that if such practices become common, no country would be safe.

"If the kidnapping of a head of state is considered normal, then no country remains safe. Today it is Venezuela; tomorrow it could be any country that does not follow orders," he said.

He also urged the international community not to remain silent, stating that this is not just a political issue but a matter of moral and legal duty. Maduro Guerra denied charges of drug trafficking and weapons smuggling filed against his father, mother, and himself, claiming his family is a victim of political revenge.

Meanwhile, deposed President Nicolas Maduro appeared in a federal court in New York on Monday and pleaded not guilty. Speaking in court, he claimed his arrest from his own home in Caracas was against international law.

His legal advisors stated they are preparing to challenge the US court's jurisdiction, calling the arrest a "military kidnapping." CNN noted that in the past, former Panamanian leader Manuel Noriega also claimed his arrest on foreign soil was illegal, but the US court at that time focused on the charges rather than the legality of the arrest.

According to US officials, the United States is working toward establishing an interim government in Venezuela. Foreign Minister Marco Rubio said that policy-making and maintaining pressure are top priorities.

The US has filed serious charges against Maduro involving drug trafficking, narco-terrorism, and weapons. The Trump administration has stated that he will face strict action in US courts according to American law. This incident has started a new global debate regarding international law and national sovereignty.
