Leaking Confidential Information Will Lead to Legal Action: Home Minister
Kathmandu. Home Minister Sudan Gurung stated that he has been monitoring for a long time the trend of officials and employees in the Ministry of Home Affairs and its subordinate agencies forgetting their official capacity and leaking confidential and sensitive information to unauthorized individuals or bodies.
On Tuesday, via the social media platform Facebook, Home Minister Gurung stated that the state's sensitive information is not anyone's private property, but a public responsibility.
Gurung mentioned that while one's position provides access to information, it does not give the right to misuse it. He noted that even the smallest piece of information, clue, or secret intelligence received from the Ministry of Home Affairs and its subordinate bodies plays a decisive role in preventing crime, advancing investigations, and establishing the truth behind serious future incidents.
Gurung warned that anyone who knowingly betrays the confidentiality entrusted by the state will not be granted immunity.
He wrote: "I have been monitoring for a long time the trend of any official or employee serving in the Ministry of Home Affairs and its subordinate agencies forgetting their official capacity and leaking confidential or sensitive information to unauthorized individuals or bodies. Sensitive state information is not anyone's private property; it is a public responsibility. Position gives access to information, but it does not give the right to misuse it. Even the smallest piece of information, clue, or secret intelligence received here plays a decisive role in preventing crime, carrying forward investigations, or establishing the truth of any serious future incident. Anyone who knowingly betrays their country and organization regarding the confidentiality entrusted by the state will receive no immunity and will be brought to justice."
