Singer Krishna B.K, who has been active in Nepali music for more than a decade and a half, has captivated many listeners/viewers with his creations. He recently made his directorial debut with the song 'Aankha Marne'. The video of this song features famous artists Priyanka Karki and Nazir Hussain. B.K, who started his formal singing journey with the song 'Sundar Sudurpaschim Hamro' in 2058 BS, has been doing quality work in creation, audio and video. His songs like 'Rato Tiki', 'Uta Hazur Musukkai, Yata Yo Jaan Bhusukkai', 'Yani Maya', 'Rani Maya', 'Rato Tiki', 'Radha Piyari', 'Neer Maya' have been greatly loved by the audience. He says that song creation is not just an art but a mixture of dreams, dedication and responsibility.

Here is a brief excerpt from a conversation with Krishna B.K, who says that new experiments and styles have been adopted in songs and music in recent times.

Recently, the song 'Aankha Marne', directed by you, has been released among the audience. What kind of song is it?

'Aankha Marne' is a folk-pop style love song. In this, I have tried to introduce the Maithili language to mainstream Nepali music. In the song, Priyanka Karki and Nazir Hussain are seen as a loving couple. Through this creation, I have also tried to show the story and cultural aspects of the Dhobi community.

What is the main message of this song?

It is a song that expresses the deep feelings between two people in love. At the same time, it is also an attempt to artistically present the identity and existence of a community.

What kind of response have you received from the audience?

I have received a better response than expected. More than one million viewers have shown their love in a short time since its release. The love of the audience is my inspiration.

How did you get attracted to directing?

All my previous songs had their own concept. Being active on set increased my interest in being close to the camera and directing. So this time I decided to test myself as a director. Now I have started getting offers for outside video direction.

The song 'Badulki Launya' sung by you became very popular, didn't it?

Yes, as mentioned here, you have liked it very much. The lyrics and music of this song carry the originality of the Far West. I adapted the Thet language into mainstream music, which the audience and listeners liked very much. After receiving a lot of attention on TikTok, the song managed to enter the 'million club' in a short time.

What was your first song?

In 2068 BS, a song titled 'Sundar Sudurpaschim' was recorded, but due to financial reasons, it could not be released in the market. I sang this song in a school-level national competition and won first place and received a prize of 40,000 rupees. That was the first big achievement of my life.

You often create songs that raise awareness, right?

The main reason for this is my own background. The experiences of poverty, social discrimination, and injustice I experienced as a child inspire me to create awareness. I want to raise my voice against caste discrimination and social evils through songs.

What are you busy with these days?

I am busy preparing a new song, writing a film script, and promoting volleyball. The goal is to bring out a new creation every two to three months. I also plan to start my own podcast in the near future with the aim of inspiring the youth.

How do you view the music of these days?

Nepali music has undergone significant changes in recent times. With the rapid advancement of technology, new uses and styles have been adopted in songs and music. This has expanded the scope of creativity and made music more diverse and attractive.

What do you think is essential for strong singing?

The seed of talent and singing may be innate, but it can only be nurtured and flourished through hard work. There is no doubt that this gift is a gift from God, but simply relying on God is not enough. Just as a seed needs soil, water, and sunshine, singing requires constant practice, discipline, and patience. I think practice should be the first part of your daily routine.

Who do you sing for?

I sing for my own satisfaction and expression, but the real gift is offered to the audience and listeners who want to immerse themselves in the music.

How challenging is it to bring a song to market?

For artists, the process of bringing their creations to the audience/fans is challenging. It involves not only artistic effort, but also the financial aspect. For many artists, their main source of income is their own songs and performances. It takes not only my effort to create a song, but the entire team's time, energy, and investment. Sometimes I wish that everyone had raised the costs from their own contributions. If the song is financially successful, that alone gives the artist and the team enthusiasm and passion for the next creation. But at the same time, the fear of financial success is always a reality. In short, songwriting is not just art, it is a mixture of dreams, dedication, and responsibility.krishna-BK-(2)-1755420334.jpeg
