Journalist Jeevant Wagley Critically Ill, Remains Unconscious Over a Week After Brain Tumor Surgery
San Francisco Bay Area, California — Jeevant Wagley, a lifetime member of the Nepal America Journalists Association (NEJA), is currently in critical condition following surgery for a brain tumor. Wagley, who resides in the San Francisco Bay Area, underwent brain tumor surgery on Monday, July 7, 2025, at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek, California.
According to his wife, Namrata Bastola, Wagley has not yet regained full consciousness even a week and a half after the operation. She informed NEJA officials that Wagley was initially taken to the emergency room at Martinez Hospital on July 6 after experiencing a severe headache. He was later referred to John Muir Hospital the same night.
Doctors performed a biopsy of the tumor and are currently awaiting its report to determine the exact nature of the illness and to decide on the further course of treatment. The timeline for recovery remains uncertain, and medical professionals have not yet confirmed whether Wagley will be able to return to his previous state of health.
In an official statement, NEJA has expressed its concern and extended best wishes for Wagley’s speedy recovery. Wagley has long been a dedicated figure in the field of journalism, both in Nepal and among the Nepali diaspora in the United States.
