Why did Ekta choose 'Harsha' out of half a dozen scripts?

Director Ekta Poudel is making her debut on the Nepali silver screen as a director with the film 'Harsha,' set to be released on Mangsir 12.

Since she studied at the New York Film Academy and is the niece of the late director Shiva Regmi, the film industry is watching her debut with special interest. Poudel says she must prove herself capable of meeting both these expectations.

Out of more than half a dozen scripts she had, she chose 'Harsha' as her debut film. The trailer has already made it clear that 'Harsha' is based on a family subject.

When asked why audiences should watch 'Harsha,' she says, 'Nepali cinema is doing good business right now. As I was coming for the interview, I was coming through Jamal. I was happy to see three posters of Nepali films in front of Bishwajyoti cinema hall.

This added a positive feeling towards my film. My film is a family drama; I have tried to tell a heartfelt story. Although I couldn't give one hundred percent like Mama Shiva, I have tried to present a sensitive subject.'

While studying at the New York Film Academy, she had the opportunity to closely observe the perspectives on cinema of students from various countries.

She found that while the fundamentals are not very different, the style of expressing emotions is made different by society and circumstances. This is why, in 'Harsha,' she has mainly centered the Nepali society, family psychology, and circumstances.

Poudel explains that in Nepali society, the continuation of the lineage is considered important. 'Harsha' addresses the family and societal reactions when an obstruction occurs in this process and the psychological pressure it creates.

'I chose this from among six or seven scripts. The issue it raises needs a public debate. If the audience understands it well, this issue will move forward even more widely.

The film doesn't speak in a complex, theoretical way; it conveys the message effectively with entertainment in a simple style,' she adds.

Due to the female director and the female-centric storyline, the film is expected to present a woman's perspective.

Regarding this, Poudel says, 'I have tried to present it effectively.'Ekta-Khagendra-Barsha-1764042230.jpg
