Minister Badi’s Dialogue with Children in Conflict with the Law

Minister for Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minorities, and Social Security, Sita Badi, has conducted an on-site monitoring and inspection of the Juvenile Correction Home (Child Correction Home) in Nuwakot.

During the inspection, Minister Badi inquired about the accommodation, education, health services, security arrangements, psychosocial counseling, skill development, and overall service delivery status of the children residing in the correction home. She also interacted with the children, staff, and relevant officials.

In the course of her visit, the Minister held a separate, direct dialogue with the children in conflict with the law. Keeping the correction home officials and other team members outside, she listened directly to the views and grievances of the children.

During the interaction, the children suggested that they should be managed based on their respective provinces and integrated with information technology, computers, and various skill-based training in line with the modern era of science and technology.

Similarly, they requested making regular psychosocial counseling services inside the facility more effective, facilitating smoother and more organized family visits, and enhancing rehabilitation-oriented programs. The children also pointed out to the Minister the need for timely improvements and amendments to the existing legal frameworks.

Concluding her inspection, Minister Badi reviewed the needs and challenges observed in the operation of the correction home. She directed the relevant authorities to prioritize and address issues such as upgrading the access road to the facility, conducting skill development training, allocating the necessary budget for medical treatment, repairing vehicles, managing staff, establishing a computer lab, operating bank accounts, and strengthening essential infrastructure.
