"I Grew Up Watching Rekha Thapa's Acting, I Became an Actress by Imitating Her": Binita Karki

Kathmandu: Binita Karki is an actress who has worked in Nepali films despite living abroad. She entered the Nepali film industry through modeling.

Her film, 'PR,' is set to release nationwide on Mangsir 26. She has come to Nepal for its promotion.

According to her, the film tells the story of a Nepali youth who goes to Australia.

Growing up, she was inspired by the acting and dancing of superstars like Rekha Thapa, Jharna Thapa, and Niruta Singh, and her dream was to become an actress. She is thrilled to finally star in Shovit Basnet's film 'PR' in a lead role.

She plans to stay in Nepal and continue her acting career if this film is successful. With the film's song and trailer already receiving good buzz, she is confident that the movie will win the audience's hearts.

Here is a short conversation with her:

How do you feel as the film's release date approaches?

I feel a little scared and a little happy. I am excited.

Is this your first film? How did you get involved in it?

I connected with the team through Facebook. A sister had tagged me there. I reached this film based on that mention.

You mentioned connecting through a mention. Could you elaborate a bit?

When I found out that the audition for this film was ongoing, I went for it. During the audition, they told me, "You are selected." But they didn't immediately promise me the role. They said that even after being selected, they would conduct an interview.

Director Shovit Basnet then said that after the interview, they would know whether I could act in the film or not. So, I gave the interview, passed it, and only then got the chance to work on this film.

You must have been very happy after being selected, right?

Naturally, there's no question of not being happy when you get a chance to work in a film. My dream was to become an actress, and that dream came true with 'PR.'

We heard that you used to do modeling before entering films. What is the truth?

Yes, I used to model before coming into films, around 2018. This was when I was in Nepal. I couldn't find time for it after going to Australia.

Was it a dream to work in films, or did you just take the opportunity when it came along?

Who doesn't dream of working in films? I had that dream too. I was trying to do something in Nepal but ended up going abroad. Even after going abroad, I thought I would achieve something there. The dream of becoming an actress remained in me, and it has started with 'PR.'

I'd like to add something to your point. When I was young, I used to watch Rekha Thapa, Niruta Singh, and Jharna Thapa dance in films on TV. After seeing that, I would try to dance just like them. I would imitate their acting in front of a mirror at home. That also inspired me to act.

Did you take any acting lessons?

No, I didn't get a chance to learn anywhere.

How easy is it to work in a film without formal acting training?

It becomes easy if the director is good. When the director gives you encouragement, you get the courage to believe, "I can act too." Director Shovit Basnet Sir gave me that courage. Also, I felt that if the team is good, acting is not difficult.

You entered films through modeling. Do you plan to continue your journey in acting, or not? What are your thoughts?

I plan to work only in films now. I haven't thought about anything else besides that.

Finally, what would you like to say to the audience?

I want to tell the audience that our film is releasing in theaters this Mangsir 26. Please watch the film and give us your honest feedback.binita-karki-(1)-1765175568.jpg
