Bhotekoshi Flood Update: 1,457 Bodies Recovered

Kathmandu. As of 6:00 AM on Wednesday, 1,457 bodies have been recovered following the devastating flood in Rasuwa's Bhotekoshi.

Among the recovered bodies, 236 were found in Rasuwa, 205 in Nuwakot, 73 in Dhading, 369 in Chitwan, 80 in Gorkha, 38 in Tanahun, 232 in Nawalparasi East, and 222 in Nawalparasi West, totaling 1,455. Additionally, 2 people died during treatment in Kathmandu.

To identify the recovered bodies, DNA samples have been collected and all necessary procedures completed, leading to the management (safely buried underground) of 1,334 bodies to date. For identification purposes, a total of 3,418 DNA samples have been collected, including 1,336 from the deceased and 2,082 from relatives. Furthermore, details of 1,440 unidentified bodies have been uploaded to the Nepal Police website.

A total of 7,975 police personnel have been deployed in the flood-affected areas for rescue, search, relief distribution, and body management operations. Search efforts are currently ongoing for 4,720 missing persons. Similarly, 1,179 people are currently housed in holding centers across various districts.
