Barsha Raut: 'Harsha' is wrong to be understood only as a film that makes you cry

In terms of her career, actress Varsha Raut is in her tenth year in the Nepali film industry. Barsha, who started her career with 'Nai Nabhannu La 4', has mostly been seen in the roles of a 'girl next door' and a housewife during this period. Despite this, she has always received praise for her work.

In the film, which marks Ekata Paudel's directorial debut, she has played the role of a daughter-in-law caught in the grip of the ancient mindset that the family tradition must be maintained.

Barsha, who has mostly appeared in multi-starrer films, is seen in a central role in this movie. She is excited to be seen as the central character of a film after a long time.

In such a situation, she believes that the audience will evaluate her work on a different level. "Since it is a central role, I feel that the audience will pay a little more attention to my work. I expect the audience to consider how well Varsha worked in this, and how much she improved compared to previous films," she said.

She had recently received very good praise for the film 'Ainchho Paichho'. Since Varsha is married, the subject of husband and wife, family, and children often comes up in interviews with her.

Considering this, many might be curious if her real-life experience is mixed into the character she has played in this film. To this, Varsha said that the character she portrayed is different from her real life, and she brought to life the character the director was looking for.

"I have played a character. Therefore, whether personal life matters or not is irrelevant. It is about what kind of experiences that character goes through whether she has a child or not," she said. "I have tried to mold myself into the character according to the essence given by the director."

Varsha, who joined the film after gaining the confidence that she could do justice to the character upon hearing the story, said that 'Harsha' will give the audience tears of joy. According to her, it should not be understood as merely a film that makes you cry.

"The trailer has already shown that it presents a family story. That's why people might think 'is it just going to make us cry?' But that is not the case. It will shed tears, but tears of joy (Harsha)," she said.

She is hopeful about the film because the audience will be able to connect with the characters. She is also confident about a positive result as a large number of viewers have recently started coming to the theaters to watch family films.

"Currently, Nepali cinema is doing very well. Most successful films have made the audience cry, touching their hearts. I feel our film will make them cry with happiness. Viewers will feel connected to their own families in this," she said.

In the film, directed by Ekata Paudel, Barsha can be seen paired with actor Khagendra Lamichhane. Varsha expressed confidence that the audience will like this pairing. The film is set to be released all over Nepal on Mangsir 12.
