Dabbu’s ‘The Change’ and KP’s ‘Tantric Dance’ Win Awards in Bangladesh

Kathmandu: At the ‘6th Bogura International Film Festival’ held in Bogra city, Bangladesh, the Nepali short film The Change (Pariwartan) and the Nepali documentary Tantric Dance have been awarded. A total of 74 films from 32 countries participated in the festival. From Nepal, three short films and one documentary were part of the international competition.

The short film The Change, directed by lyricist and media person Dabbu Kshetri, was selected under the ‘International Short Indoor’ category. In this category, The Change was honored with the ‘Honorable Mention Award.’ Director Dabbu Kshetri, actor Praban Bhusal, actress and singer Sarita Bharati, and makeup artist Bina Rana Magar attended the festival from Nepal.

Director Kshetri, actor Praban, and actress Sarita received the award and prize during the festival’s closing ceremony. Along with Praban and Sarita, the short film features Kamala Joshi, Madhav Raj Kharel, Sharmila Sharma, and Suraj Adhikari in lead roles.

Similarly, the documentary Tantric Dance, directed by Nepali film director KP Pathak, was also awarded the ‘Honorable Mention Award’ in the international category. This documentary is based on the traditional 'Kartik Naach.' Both The Change and Tantric Dance had their Bangladesh premieres during the festival's opening ceremony.

Organized by the Pundranagar Film Society Bogara, the festival lasted for three days at the Madhuban Cinecomplex in Bogra. The event, which began on Wednesday, concluded on Saturday night with the award presentation.

The jury for the festival included Santosh Subedi, Chairman of the Nepal International Cultural Film Festival, alongside producer Mohammad Rakibul Hasan, director Khandaker Sumon, filmmaker Antu Azad, cinematographer Sheikh Rajibul Islam, producer Rajibul Hossain, and Jiban Shahadat.

Filmmakers from Nepal, India, Russia, Singapore, Spain, and Bangladesh participated in the event. The festival also hosted half a dozen interactions and masterclasses.

During the closing ceremony, Festival Director Supin Barman stated that this is the second-largest international film festival in Bangladesh. 

Festival Chairman M. Rahman Sagar mentioned that they have been organizing the festival despite receiving no financial assistance from the government.
