Tamang Community Celebrates Sonam Lhochhar-2862 Grandly in Australia

Sydney, Australia. The historical and cultural festival of the Tamang community, Sonam Lhochhar-2862 (Year of the Horse), has been celebrated with a grand cultural program in Parramatta, Sydney, Australia. Organized by the Tamang Society of New South Wales (NSW), the event took place on Saturday at the Riverside Theatre, Parramatta.

Emphasis on Preserving Tamang Culture Abroad

The program saw a significant presence of leaders from the Nepali and Tamang communities, intellectuals, artists, youth, and the general public. Chief Guest Jihad Dib, while inaugurating Sonam Lhochhar-2862, praised the role played by the Tamang community in preserving their language, culture, and original identity abroad.

He mentioned that in multicultural Australia, such cultural events strengthen the identity of the Nepali community and stated that these festivals are essential to keep the new generation connected to their own culture.

Harmony and Unity Among the Community

On the same occasion, Sanjeev Sharma expressed that the efforts made by the Tamang community for cultural preservation in Australia are commendable, sharing the view that such programs strengthen mutual harmony and unity within the Nepali community. He also expressed a commitment that the Consulate Office is always ready to collaborate with the Nepali community.

Nepali Participation in Multicultural Australia

Local Councilor Bhadra Waiba noted that the role played by the Tamang Society of NSW in preserving the community's identity is significant, mentioning that the active participation of the Nepali community in multicultural Australia is a matter of pride.

Cultural Performances and Honor Ceremony

The main attractions of the program were live performances by famous Selo singer Ashman Lopchan and popular singer-composer Dil Tamang. Additionally, the cultural diversity of the Tamang community was showcased through Tamang cultural dances, songs, Selo instruments, and a DJ session.

On this occasion, former presidents of the Tamang Society of NSW and senior personalities of the community were also honored.

Participation of Various Organizations

Representatives from various organizations and media persons, including the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities Australia, Tamu Samaj Australia, and the Australian Nepalese Journalists Association, participated in the program.
