6 Dead, 3 Missing in Myagdi Landslides

Kathmandu. Six people have died and three others have gone missing after landslides triggered by continuous heavy rainfall struck various locations in Myagdi district.

According to a press release issued on Sunday by the District Police Office, Myagdi, the bodies of six victims buried in the landslides were recovered through joint efforts of local citizens and the police.

The deceased have been identified as 19-year-old Sabin Garbuja of Annapurna Rural Municipality Ward 8, 54-year-old Yomaya Paija of Annapurna Rural Municipality Ward 3 (Phagam), 31-year-old Chiran Pun and 28-year-old Dev Bahadur Pun of Malika Rural Municipality Ward 3 (Dandagaun), 5-year-old Jeni Purja of Annapurna Rural Municipality Ward 6 (Giwang), and 75-year-old Shil Kumari Garbuja of Annapurna Rural Municipality Ward 3 (Phagam).

Those reported missing are 75-year-old Om Bahadur Tilija of Annapurna Rural Municipality Ward 6 (Giwang), 21-year-old Manoj Garbuja of Annapurna Rural Municipality Ward 8 (Kaphaldanda), and Kumari Bishwakarma (age unknown) of Beni Municipality Ward 3 (Bhakimli Chepare).

The District Police Office stated that 78 individuals from the landslide-affected areas have been relocated to safer places via Nepal Army helicopters. Police personnel are currently deployed in the affected regions, and relief distribution and further rescue operations are ongoing.

Meanwhile, vehicular movement has come to a complete halt as landslides blocked multiple points along the Beni–Jomsom and Beni–Darbang road sections. Efforts are underway to reopen the obstructed roads, according to Information Officer and Police Inspector Sagar Timilsina.
