Manang's Tal Village Inundated, Communication Cut Off with Upper Regions

Kathmandu. The settlement of Tal village, located in Ward No. 1 of Nasong Rural Municipality in Manang, has been inundated after the Marshyangdi River overflowed into the village. Due to the disruption of electricity and internet services, contact with the regions lying above Tal village has been completely lost.

According to Dhan Bahadur Gurung, Chairman of Nasong Rural Municipality, the drainage near the bridge was blocked after an unusual surge in the water level of the Marshyangdi River. Consequently, the river's flow backtracked and entered the village settlement.

He stated that according to preliminary reports, around four to five households in Tal village have been affected. However, complete details regarding further damage are yet to arrive. Chairman Gurung mentioned that owing to the power and communication outages, it has become difficult to get updates on the condition of settlements further upstream. As local residents cannot be reached, the exact extent of the additional damage remains to be confirmed.

The rural municipality stated that since Nasong is the southern entry point of Manang adjoining Lamjung, currently available information is limited only up to Tal village. Efforts are underway to assess the situation in the upper regions.
