Floods in Saptari: 500 Houses Submerged, Over 2,000 People Affected

Saptari: Following continuous rainfall, rising water levels in the Saptakoshi River have swept into various settlements in Saptari.

Due to the floodwaters, around 500 houses in Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality and Tilathi Koiladi Rural Municipality have been inundated, affecting more than 2,000 people.

In Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality alone, 483 houses were submerged after floodwaters entered settlements in wards 5, 7, 12, and 13. Similarly, 17 houses were inundated in wards 4 and 5 of Tilathi Koiladi Rural Municipality, according to the local administration.

Virendra Majhi, head of Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality, informed that floodwaters began entering human settlements after the flow in the Saptakoshi River swelled starting Friday night.

He stated that as an immediate relief measure for those affected, arrangements have been made to provide two meals a day, morning and evening.

The municipality is also preparing to identify the affected families and distribute additional relief materials once water levels recede further.

Due to continuous rain and fluctuating river levels, risks remain high in the riverine and coastal areas of Saptari, prompting authorities to urge local residents to remain vigilant.
