Arniko Highway Completely Blocked

Ramechhap. Continuous rainfall has triggered a landslide, completely blocking the Arniko Highway. The road section near Zipline in Dhulikhel Municipality-8, Kavre, was fully obstructed around 8:55 AM today after mud and rocks fell from above the road.

According to the District Police Office, Kavre, vehicles traveling to and from Kathmandu along this road section have been stranded due to the landslide.

Following the blockage, all vehicles heading from Kathmandu toward eastern districts—including the Koshipari region of Kavre, Sindhupalchok, Dolakha, Ramechhap, Okhaldhunga, Solukhumbu, Khotang, and Bhojpur—have been affected.

With the BP Highway already obstructed for the past three days, the closure of the Arniko Highway has created further difficulties for transportation to the eastern districts.

After the BP Highway was blocked, vehicles heading to eastern districts like Dolakha, Ramechhap, Solukhumbu, Okhaldhunga, and Khotang had been rerouted via the Arniko Highway. However, with the Arniko Highway now also closed due to landslides, road connectivity between Kathmandu and the eastern districts has been further disrupted.

Although efforts are underway to clear the debris and reopen the road, police stated that continuous rainfall poses an ongoing risk of further landslides.

As a result of the blockage, vehicles coming from various directions as well as those heading east remain stranded along the route.
