Bhotekoshi Flood Update: 1,453 Bodies Recovered

Kathmandu. A total of 1,453 bodies have been recovered as of 5:00 AM on Sunday following devastating flash floods in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa.

Among these, 1,451 bodies were recovered across various districts: 236 in Rasuwa, 204 in Nuwakot, 72 in Dhading, 368 in Chitwan, 79 in Gorkha, 38 in Tanahun, 232 in Nawalparasi East, and 222 in Nawalparasi West. Additionally, 2 individuals passed away while undergoing medical treatment in Kathmandu.

To date, 1,334 bodies have been safely managed (buried securely) after completing necessary legal procedures, including DNA sample collection for identification. A total of 3,391 DNA samples have been collected—1,330 from the deceased and 2,061 from relatives—to assist with identification.

Furthermore, details of 1,421 unidentified bodies have been uploaded to the Nepal Police website.

A force of 7,975 police personnel has been deployed in the flood-affected regions for rescue operations, search efforts, relief distribution, and body management. Search operations are actively ongoing for 4,718 people who remain missing.

Additionally, 1,279 individuals are currently accommodated in holding centers established across various districts.
