Morang-3: Why Dr. Sunil Sharma Needs to Win Again
Morang. As the House of Representatives elections approach, the political temperature in Morang-3 is rising. Amidst this, discussions and debates have begun across the constituency regarding the candidacy of Dr. Sunil Sharma, who has been nominated again by the Nepali Congress. The single question being asked is—why should Dr. Sharma be elected again?
The first reason is performance. Elected with a historic margin in 2079 B.S, Dr. Sharma did not establish himself as a member of parliament who merely showed up for attendance. He consistently spoke on issues related to health insurance, equitable budget distribution, education, and public health. He established himself as an MP who raises his voice for the citizens, rising above the party whip.
Second is the clear line between service and politics. His decision not to take a salary or allowances after becoming an MP is not just symbolic; it is a reflection of his political philosophy. He has demonstrated through action that politics is not for position, perks, or access. This has become a foundation of trust for the voters of Morang-3.
Third is his deep connection with the constituency. Dr. Sharma is not just a leader who promises development; he is a representative who provides direct service. The establishment of a 50-bed free cabin for the citizens of his own constituency at Nobel Medical College, free health camps, and the handing over of ambulances are not election slogans but implemented facts.
Fourth is inclusive thinking and social justice. Providing opportunities in medical and health education to more than a thousand Dalit and Janajati students is not a common political practice. The production of the first doctor from the Santhal community is evidence of this. This perspective has made Dr. Sharma a representative of social justice not just for Morang-3, but at the national level.
Fifth is political maturity and history. Having served as a bridge for dialogue between democratic forces and the Maoist movement during the armed conflict, it has already been proven that Dr. Sharma is a leader who seeks solutions during crises. His presence in parliament prioritizes dialogue over conflict.
Sixth is credibility and clarity. He does not hide what he speaks. The ability to publicly question even the weaknesses within his own party is rare in today’s politics. For this reason, his voice appears distinct and influential from social media to the parliament.
Ultimately, the answer to what kind of representative Morang-3 wants is becoming clear: an MP who has shown results through work, can give up privileges, speaks the language of the citizens, and can influence national debate.
For this reason, Dr. Sharma's candidacy is seen in Morang-3 not just as a repeat candidacy, but as a test of continuity. And it is this continuity that has strengthened the argument for the voters of Morang-3 to elect him again.
