Uncertainty in Madhesh Province After Supreme Court Order on Chief Minister Appointment
Janakpur. The order issued by the Supreme Court on Tuesday regarding the writ petition on the appointment of the Chief Minister has created uncertainty in Madhesh Province.
Yesterday (Tuesday), the Supreme Court issued an interim order to Madhesh Province Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav, instructing him not to make policy or long-term decisions until the case is finalized. Following this order, Chief Minister Yadav's supporters are celebrating.
Chief Minister Yadav's supporters—including UML (CPN-UML) Members of Provincial Assembly (MPAs), leaders, and cadres—are happy because the court only instructed him not to make policy and long-term decisions, but did not immediately remove him from the post of Chief Minister.
They are expressing their happiness on social media, congratulating Chief Minister Yadav and claiming his victory.
On the other hand, the opposition parties appear to be in a similar state. The seven political parties aligned with Jitendra Sonal are also celebrating, claiming that the court's order is their victory. The opposition parties are pleased that the court has instructed Chief Minister Yadav not to make policy or long-term decisions.
Ram Ashish Yadav, the whip of the Janata Samajwadi Party, Nepal in Madhesh Province and an MPA, stated, "If Chief Minister Yadav comes to the Provincial Assembly to seek a vote of confidence, we will give him our answer."
The Supreme Court order yesterday has set November 27 (Mangsir 11) as the date for the final hearing. The bench of Supreme Court Justices Dr. Nahakul Subedi and Sunil Kumar Pokharel issued the interim order yesterday and decided to present the case before a full bench on that date.
Through this same order, the court instructed Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav not to make any decision that would have a policy or long-term impact.
The court mentioned that this order will remain in effect until the final verdict on the case is delivered. The writ petition challenging the constitutional validity of Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav's appointment was filed in the Supreme Court by 74 MPAs from seven parties.
