Ishwar Pokharel Stresses Social Harmony as the Foundation of National Unity
Kathmandu: CPN (UML) leader Ishwar Pokharel has stated that the party will stand against any actions that weaken social harmony. Speaking at an interaction program with candidates under the Sun election symbol in Kathmandu on Wednesday, he emphasized that social harmony is the foundation of national unity and that the UML will focus on maintaining it while opposing any attempts to undermine it.
He said, "Social harmony is the foundation of our national unity. The UML cannot tolerate any act that weakens this harmony. It will stand in opposition to such acts and focus on issues that maintain social harmony. This will be reflected as a commitment in our manifesto. Furthermore, we want to focus on significant development projects that were initiated during the previous CPN (UML) government."
Similarly, he stated that the UML remains committed to addressing the problems emerging in sectors such as education, health, employment, production, and public service delivery. He noted that the party has presented itself differently in this manifesto by not only listing good deeds but also specifying timelines for when particular tasks will be completed.
He added, "You can see that we have presented ourselves in a slightly different manner in this manifesto. We are presenting specific issues along with a work schedule. We will come forward by specifying not just the good work we intend to do, but exactly when we will do it."
Additionally, he mentioned that while the party has no disagreement with the issues raised by the Gen Z group, it holds serious reservations and opposition toward the conspiracies carried out in the name of the movement. He clarified, "The demands raised by the Gen Z group were not improper. The initial steps taken to fulfill those demands were also not improper.
However, after some time, it was hijacked—this isn't just my word; the protesters themselves used the term 'hijack.' Once it was hijacked, the situation turned into a conspiracy. This needs to be understood separately.
We do not disagree with the Gen Z issues, but we have serious disagreement and opposition to the conspiracy that took place in the name of the movement. Therefore, we oppose it, and there are no two opinions about this."
