UML Leaders Demand Swift Decision on Parliament Reinstatement
Deputy General Secretary of the Nepal Communist Party (UML), Yogesh Kumar Bhattarai, has urged a swift resolution of constitutional matters, including the reinstatement of Parliament, warning that delays could create further complications.
Speaking at a press conference in Phungling, his home district, after being elected UML Deputy General Secretary at the party’s 11th General Convention, Bhattarai said the party plans to use both the reinstatement of Parliament and upcoming elections to restore the constitution and democracy.
He stressed that the House of Representatives is vital for preserving the constitution, sustaining democracy, and ensuring continuity.
Bhattarai noted that if Parliament is not reinstated, the country will focus on the elections scheduled for Falgun 21. He also clarified that although five candidates were recommended from Taplejung for the House of Representatives, only one would contest, while the others should support the party to ensure victory, emphasizing that the party comes first, then the symbol, and only then the individual.
UML central member and President of the National Youth Union Nepal, Kshitij Thebe, accused external forces of influencing the events of Bhadra 23 and 24.
He warned Targeting Balen Shah that Although burning the Singha Durbar succeeded, Nepali citizens will not forget the destruction of national heritage sites, including the Singha Durbar, Supreme Court, and Parliament building.
Thebe echoed Bhattarai’s message on party unity, emphasizing that four of the five recommended candidates will lead the party’s electoral front to secure victory.
UML Taplejung’s acting president, Dipendra Pomu (Dipen), said the party meeting on Saturday recommended five candidates for the upcoming elections: Deputy General Secretary Bhattarai, Central Members Thebe and Tilak Kumar Menyangbo, outgoing Central Member Tank Angwuhang, and District Committee Deputy Secretary Bhimadevi Ojha.
