CPN-UML Expresses Serious Concern Over Upcoming Elections

Kathmandu: The Nepal Communist Party (UML) has stated that it is closely monitoring the upcoming House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5. Organizing a press conference on Wednesday, the UML informed that it has maintained its candidates in 163 out of the 165 electoral constituencies across the country.

According to the statement, an agreement has been reached in Rukum West of Karnali Province to support Progressive Democratic Party candidate Janardan Sharma. The party also noted that nominations could not be registered in Manang due to technical reasons, and that dialogue and consensus processes with various political parties and groups are ongoing based on local circumstances.

The UML has interpreted these candidacies as a civic and political warning against all types of conspiracies, maneuvers, and encirclement. Additionally, the party emphasized its commitment to construction and development against tendencies of destruction, arson, and the ruining of state structures.

The press release expressed serious concern regarding the increasing misuse of social media, with the UML objecting to the irresponsible and non-political use of technology. The party alleged that artists and technology are being misused to spread confusion regarding various political parties, candidates, and election symbols.

The party demanded that anyone involved in creating or broadcasting misleading materials, such as those suggesting a change in the UML's election symbol, be brought to justice. Furthermore, the UML strongly condemned the abusive, undignified, and uncivilized expressions targeted at Party Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on social media.

The UML claimed that the peace and security necessary for the election have not yet been ensured. The statement mentioned that although it is the government's primary responsibility to create an environment where citizens can vote fearlessly and confidently, a reliable atmosphere has not been established so far.

The UML further stated that escaped prisoners from various jails and reform centers across the country have not yet been rearrested, illegal weapons remain at large, and organized theft and looting have increased in the capital.

Asserting that the election code of conduct is being continuously violated, the UML urged relevant agencies to increase surveillance on activities that affect national integrity, sovereignty, peace, security, and social harmony.

Otherwise, the party warned that the government and concerned parties must take responsibility for any anarchy, violence, or destruction resulting from such activities.
