Equal Participation of Men and Women Observed at CPN-UML Convention
Kathmandu: A scene of equal participation between male and female delegates has been observed at the General Convention of the CPN (UML). During the voting process, both male and female leaders and cadres are participating by standing in the same lines.
Saraswati Karki, a member of the Kathmandu District Secretariat and a convention delegate, stated that although she is not a candidate for any position, she attended the convention to support and stand by the elected leadership. Regarding the voting system, she explained that voting machines have been used previously and clarified that there would be no issues with casting votes.
She mentioned that delegates were given practice sessions on how to vote three days prior, and assistance is available for anyone facing difficulties. Highlighting the significant participation of women in the convention, she emphasized that men and women should not stay separate but should work together in the same space with a positive mindset.
"Men and women are like two wheels of the same chariot; we must move forward together," she said, delivering a message of inclusivity and equality.
Similarly, Bishnu Sharma, a UML delegate from Sunsari, noted that men and women are participating in the voting process by standing in the same queue. She mentioned that men and women in politics should take such matters naturally. She further added that there was no reason to be upset that the voting, originally scheduled for yesterday, was taking place today.
Expressing the view that respect and cooperation are essential between men and women, she stressed the need for a change in mindset. "It is not necessary for men and women to sit separately everywhere; if we move forward with mutual respect, there will be no problems," she said.
This scene from the General Convention sends a message that gender equality is possible in practice. The UML convention has presented itself as a powerful example, showing that a prosperous and inclusive future can be built when men and women move forward together—not just in politics, but in all sectors of society.
