Dr. Tika Dhakal Expresses Commitment After Election to UML Central Committee
Kathmandu: Following her election to the Central Committee of the CPN-UML with a high number of votes during the 11th General Convention, Dr. Tika Dhakal shared that she now feels a much greater sense of responsibility.
She stated that while being a convention representative was an honor in itself, being elected to the Central Committee with such strong support exceeded her expectations.
Although she is relatively new to the party's mainstream, she noted that the popular vote from representatives across the country has made her more serious and accountable. Dr. Dhakal mentioned that the congratulations and support she received at the convention site made her realize the heavy duties now on her shoulders.
She emphasized the challenge of honoring the trust of the representatives while following the party’s rules and discipline. "Every step I take now must be answerable to the party and its future leadership," she said.
Describing the atmosphere of the convention as enthusiastic and democratic, Dr. Dhakal said she was deeply impressed by the dedication of the representatives.
She remarked that despite past internal struggles and difficult times, the energy shown by members proves that CPN-UML remains a dynamic and living party.
She highlighted that the 11th General Convention’s focus on including youth and the new generation is a positive step. Dr. Dhakal clarified that in her new role, she will prioritize agendas such as good governance, anti-corruption, and gender equality.
To remove public distrust toward political parties, she believes transparency, the rule of law, and fair work styles are essential. She also stressed the need to work on both structural and practical levels to strengthen the voice of women in leadership.
Speaking on the challenges faced by women in politics, Dr. Dhakal noted that family duties, social perspectives, and heavy responsibilities remain significant hurdles.
However, she argued that history proves women are capable leaders and administrators, and the democratic system provides them the opportunity to move forward. She stressed that continuous effort is needed to end gender discrimination for future generations.
Regarding the debate over former President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s return to active politics, Dr. Dhakal described her as a "pride of the nation." She mentioned that the dignity and legal processes associated with someone who held such a high office must be respected. She warned that any activity outside the party's formal decisions and rules could weaken the organization.
Finally, Dr. Tika Dhakal urged youth and women to approach politics with a sense of reality rather than emotion. Stating that politics is the main way to build the nation, she believe reforms are possible through established, disciplined parties with public support.
"Choose ideas over illusions; stay in the country to build it instead of going abroad," she said, calling on all Nepalis to work together to create a prosperous and cultured society.
