PM Sushila Karki Invited to Tharu National Maghi Festival
Kathmandu: A delegation from the Tharu Kalyankarini Sabha met with Prime Minister Sushila Karki today. During the meeting held at the Prime Minister's residence in Baluwatar, the delegation extended an invitation to the Prime Minister to attend the Tharu National Maghi Festival.
Premilal Chaudhary, Coordinator of the Main Organizing Committee and President of the Tharu Kalyankarini Sabha, handed over the invitation letter to PM Karki for the event scheduled to take place at Tundikhel on January 15 (Magh 1).
On that occasion, President Chaudhary urged the Prime Minister to address the demands and issues of the Tharu community. He expressed grievance that even ten years after the promulgation of the Constitution, the issue of civil service reservation for Tharus has not been fully ensured.
In response, Prime Minister Karki maintained that no one should obstruct the exercise of rights already established by the Constitution and the law. She stated, "Who stopped the rights granted by the Constitution and why? I am also struggling to understand this. I am concerned about it. No one should prevent the implementation of rights already organized within the Constitution and the law."
She further remarked that since this country is a "common garden" for everyone, there must be appropriate representation of all communities within the state, noting that development is only sustainable when it stems from inclusive representation. The Tharu community celebrates the Maghi festival every year on the day of Maghe Sankranti.
