NC President Gagan Thapa Pledges Corruption-Free Nepal within Five Years

Kathmandu: Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has stated that he wants to make Nepal corruption-free within the next five years.

Speaking at the "Our Pledge, Your Question" program at the National City Hall in Kathmandu, held for the detailed public release and Q&A session of the Congress manifesto, President Thapa made these remarks.

He said, "While Congress addresses these matters, it will not look at the relationships or the status of individuals involved in corruption. No matter who it is—whether it is the President or any person in a high position—if they have committed corruption, they have no right to remain in public office."

He stated that investigations would be conducted into leaders of any party from 2047 BS onwards. He emphasized that services must now be citizen-centric rather than office-centric, insisting that work must be completed within the specified timeframe.

President Thapa mentioned that once the timeframe for a citizen to receive a service is established, there should be a provision for compensation if the service is delayed. He said, "In public service, if it is said that something will be done in one day, it must be done in one day.

If it is said that a service will be provided in one hour, it must be provided in one hour. To achieve this, how do we use technology? Which current laws should be amended, how should physical infrastructure be built, and how can services be provided to citizens at their homes?"

He added that the Congress has systematically put forward plans for digital public services available 24/7 and arrangements for compensation to citizens if there is a delay in service.
