Gagan Thapa Accuses Government of Disrespecting Parliament and Citizens
Rautahat. Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has accused the current government of disrespecting both the Parliament and the citizens. Thapa made these remarks during a worker interaction program organized in Chandranigahpur, Rautahat, while on his way to meet voters in his constituency, Sarlahi-4, for the first time since the House of Representatives election.
President Thapa stated that the government lacks trust in the House, despite having its own majority. "The government does not seem to have any faith in the House where it holds a majority," he said. "Postponing the meeting without any prior notice after the date for the Parliament session had already been fixed and called clearly demonstrates the government's irresponsibility."
Targeting the government's preparations to bring ordinances by bypassing Parliament, he criticized the tendency of not providing any information to the citizens. Thapa characterized the misleading propaganda—claiming that the meeting was postponed at the request of the MPs—as "downright lying and showing contempt."
Discussing the composition of the Constitutional Council, he noted that, like previous prime ministers, attempts to manipulate things to one's own advantage are continuing. "We are in favor of reform and wanted to bring about extensive changes in the appointments of constitutional bodies," he said. "However, there is an attempt to move forward unilaterally without any discussion with the opposition."
He warned that while the Congress is ready to support the government in governance reform, it will not remain silent against the tendency to suppress the Parliament and other parties. Thapa is heading to Sarlahi for the first time to thank voters and understand the local situation after his defeat in Sarlahi-4 in the elections held last February.
He has a scheduled program to reach various places in Sarlahi today and meet directly with the voters.
