Smartphone Imports in Nepal See Significant Surge
Kathmandu. There has been an encouraging increase in the import of smartphones in Nepal. In the first nine months of the current fiscal year 2082/83, smartphones worth more than 33.5 arba rupees have entered Nepal.
According to data from the Department of Customs, smartphones totaling 33 arba 82 crore 25 lakh rupees were imported during the period from Shrawan to the end of Chaitra. During this time, 1,674,000 units of smartphones entered Nepal. Compared to the same period last fiscal year, the graph of smartphone imports this year appears much higher. According to the department, smartphones worth 25 arba 38 crore 44 lakh rupees were imported by the end of Chaitra last year.
At that time, 1,584,000 units of smartphones had entered Nepal. Compared to last year, the number of smartphone imports has increased by about 90,000 units, while in terms of value, there is an increase of nearly 8.5 arba rupees.
Looking at the statistics, it appears that the demand for expensive and modern smartphones is increasing in the Nepali market.
The smartphone import figures have trended upward following the removal of government restrictions on the import of luxury goods and the increased availability of new phone models in the market.
