RPP Spokesperson Gyanendra Shahi Demands Change in Political and Constitutional Structure
Gyanendra Shahi, spokesperson for the Rashtriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), has demanded a change in the political and constitutional structure, stating that the current governance system has failed.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Shahi accused the government of failing to provide basic services such as employment, quality education, and healthcare to the public, and claimed that despite paying excessive taxes, the people are not receiving the expected facilities.
He said, “Today, the people have not found employment. Even after paying 75 percent tax, there is neither education, nor health, nor improved roads, nor justice. If those articles and sections within the constitution are not modified, even if Lord Bishnu himself comes to this country as Prime Minister, he will not be able to manage the expenses.”
Shahi stated that the root cause of these problems is the current constitution of Nepal and its articles and sections. He claimed that if the constitution is not amended as necessary, the country will not be able to bear the expenses even with extraordinary leadership.
Shahi's demand is to abolish the provision of the President and establish a Constitutional Monarchy. “We do not need a King who rides a bicycle; we need a constitutional monarchy like Japan, Britain, Australia, the Netherlands, or Canada,” he said.
He also put forward proposals such as a system of directly elected executive Prime Minister by the people, abolition of the provincial structure, cessation of political appointments in constitutional commissions, and making the local level non-partisan.
Furthermore, he argued that the country cannot progress without life imprisonment for the corrupt and strict action against criminals.
He stated, “This country will not be built without a constitutional monarchy instead of the President, a directly elected executive Prime Minister by the people, abolishing the provincial structure, ending political appointments in constitutional commissions, making the local level non-partisan, and putting the corrupt into life imprisonment and apprehending and jailing criminals.”
