Supreme Court Overturns Government's Decision to Scrap Land Commission and Recall 11 Ambassadors
The Supreme Court has overturned the decision by the Karki-led interim government, formed on the foundation of the Gen Z movement, to scrap the Land Commission and recall 11 ambassadors from various countries.
On Monday, the Supreme Court placed a stay on the government's decision to recall 11 ambassadors and dissolve the commission related to land issues.
Although the Council of Ministers meeting held on Ashoj 23 had decided to dissolve the Land Problems Resolution Commission and its district committees, today the government's decision was invalidated by a joint bench of Supreme Court Justices Saranga Subedi and Shrikant Paudel.
The Council of Ministers had decided to scrap the Land Problems Resolution Commission and its district committees.
Against this decision, the commission's chairman, Hariprasad Rijal, had filed a writ, and the Supreme Court had previously issued an interim order not to immediately implement the dissolution decision.
The court issued the order stating that the interim government, formed for the purpose of holding elections, should not be interested in decisions that are unrelated to that objective and have long-term effects.
Advocate Kirtinath Sharma Paudel suggests that the Supreme Court made this ruling because it saw that if the government continued making a flurry of decisions, it would lead the country down a path where elections would not happen.
He stated that the Supreme Court repeatedly overturning government decisions signifies that the government must now focus solely on the elections and serves as a reminder that the government's term is only for six months.
