Surkhet’s 'Satikalasa' Play Faces Last-Minute Controversy and Director Swap
SURKHET. The play 'Satikalasa,' based on Dhamari folk culture and preparing for its showcase in Surkhet, has been drawn into controversy at the final hour. Organized by Arang Nepal following a 15-day training period, the performance—originally scheduled for April 18—has been suddenly postponed to April 25. The situation has become more mysterious as the organizers changed not only the date but also the director.
Information has been released naming Ganesh Gautam, head of Arang Nepal, as the new director, replacing the previous directorial duo of Bishal KC and Pinky Bohara. Outgoing director KC stated that he has received no information regarding the reason for this change. KC remarked that removing someone from their responsibility without cause or notification is not a positive move.
On the other hand, Arang Nepal chief Ganesh Bhakta Gautam stated that since he is the author of the play, a situation arose where he had to take over the direction himself. Gautam responded that he is simply maintaining continuity, as he has personally directed the play since its 2064 B.S performance at Gurukul and during various drama competitions.
However, this sudden last-minute reshuffle just before the showcase has created confusion among artists and audiences, sparking new debates and curiosity within the cultural sector.
