Rabi Lamichhane: Martyrs' Families Hold the Primary Right to Justice
Kathmandu. Rabi Lamichhane, Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has expressed dissatisfaction with the interpretation of the arrest of former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak as an act of political vendetta and haste.
Speaking with media persons on Friday following the filing of the nomination of Vice Chairman DP Aryal for the new Speaker of the House of Representatives, he stated that while the arrest of Lekhak is being labeled as vengeful and rushed, the primary right and urgency for justice belong to the families of the martyrs.
He said, "It is premature to call the arrest of the former Home Minister an act of revenge. Parents who lost their young children must be in a hurry for justice. No one else could be in such a hurry, could they? Therefore, the first right to receive justice belongs to the families of the martyrs and the families of the injured. Everyone has the right to justice. Politically speaking, the first right belongs to the martyr families."
He mentioned that they are under public audit and citizens are monitoring all activities. "We are in a public audit. Citizens are watching this. We will show results through our work rather than just words," he said.
He emphasized that the newly elected Speaker must put their experience into practice and adhere to the standards of parliamentary dignity, regulations, and discipline.
Additionally, he mentioned that after reaching the post of Speaker, one must rise above the party and be responsible to the entire House, stating that behavior contrary to democratic values, such as suppressing the opposition or stifling citizens' issues, would be unacceptable.
