Former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak Questions Movement Restrictions
Former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has stated that the interim government did not inform him about any restrictions placed on his movement (area-limit). He mentioned that he only found out about these restrictions through the media.
"I have no idea about the restrictions on my movement. I don't know under which law or on what basis this was done," he said. "The government has the right to use legal powers. I have no objection to things done according to the law, but shouldn't I be asked why, for what reason, and for how long these restrictions are being applied?"
Lekhak added that he is unsure if the restrictions are still in place and noted that he was also not informed about his passport being blocked. He clarified that the inquiry commission had not provided him with any information regarding these matters.
He further stated: "I have not received any written or oral information explaining which law was used, for what purpose, or for how long my movement and passport were restricted. I was not even given a chance to answer any questions. I believed that being informed before or after such a decision is part of the rule of law and the principle of a fair hearing. But that did not happen.
Making such decisions without reason or information goes against the constitution and the law. Therefore, I want to bring this to the serious attention of the commission, the government, and all relevant agencies."
