Nepali Congress Leader Raju Thapa Opts Out of Upcoming Elections
Kathmandu: Nepali Congress Syangja District President Raju Thapa has announced that he will not be a candidate in the upcoming House of Representatives election. Thapa stated that he decided not to contest the election to accommodate the changed political equation and to provide opportunities for new faces.
He said, "I have previously been a candidate from this constituency three times and secured victory twice. This time, it is specifically to give opportunities to new friends. I will support whoever receives the official ticket from the Nepali Congress and will work hard to ensure their victory."
Following Thapa's decision, party workers have been expressing their views on social media, suggesting that Thapa himself should be the candidate for Syangja-1 and arguing that it might be difficult for anyone else to win the election.
Meanwhile, Thapa has urged Syangja-based leaders and party workers not to be disheartened by his decision and to focus on ensuring a victory for the Nepali Congress. Thapa first secured a win for the Congress in Syangja Constituency No. 1 during the 2070 B.S Constituent Assembly election.
He established himself as a prominent leader in Syangja's politics by breaking the long-standing winning streak of the CPN (UML) in Syangja-1, a seat the UML had held for a significant period.
