President Paudel Stresses Bureaucratic Reforms and Meritocracy

Kathmandu: President Ramchandra Paudel has stated that the true desire of the Nepali people, who fought and sacrificed for the federal democratic republic, is effective service delivery through good governance, rapid development, peace, and progress for the country.

Addressing a ceremony organized on the occasion of the 76th anniversary of the Public Service Commission, he emphasized the need to make our state machinery more public-centric, service-oriented, technology-friendly, and result-oriented to meet these aspirations of the people in modern times.

President Paudel said, "Self-motivated, disciplined, well-behaved, ethical, responsible, and dedicated employees can make this role effective. The bureaucracy must win the hearts of the citizens through technology and smart service delivery. This will enhance trust that the public interest is served in a democracy."

President Paudel made it clear that there is still a need to protect the merit system established in accordance with the spirit of inclusive democracy adopted by the Constitution, and to further strengthen its foundation.

He added, "We must not forget the reality that hardworking youth have been able to see their future secured in the democratic system of governance due to the trust and confidence in the Commission, as well as the principles and systems it follows. Based on past experience and knowledge, alongside the study of globally developed principles and systems in this field, I believe the Commission will make a special contribution to further refining its work in the future."

Mentioning that the Public Service Commission is an important body for selecting and recruiting employees in government service, he stated that it should always pay special attention to basing its work on modern technology and adopting timely testing methods and techniques in employee selection to continuously select good and outstanding candidates.

President Paudel said, "The contribution made by the Commission so far in the fields of employee selection, promotion, and consultation is commendable. I trust that you will work especially hard to fulfill this trust, confidence, and prestige even more effectively in the coming days."

President Paudel stated that along with the expansion of the Public Service Commission's scope of work, there is a challenge to formulate future plans while keeping its performance technology-friendly, scientific, organized, and high-quality. He suggested reviewing past work and setting plans to face future challenges during this anniversary celebration.

He expressed happiness that the Public Service Commission, which bears the constitutional responsibility of selecting qualified employees to serve as the permanent government in necessary state bodies, has performed its duties effectively over seven and a half decades based on the core principles of "merit, fairness, and cleanliness."
