Political Parties Must Take Responsibility for Gen Z Movement: RSP Chief Whip Santosh Pariyar
Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chief Whip Santosh Pariyar said that political parties themselves must take responsibility for all the events of the Gen Z movement.
Speaking at a panel discussion titled 'Changing Politics: Parties Correcting or Fading?' organized by the Citizens' Initiative for National Unity under the 'Nation's Interest Paramount Conference 2082' on Wednesday in Kathmandu, he made it clear that the current complex situation arose because political parties failed to work in accordance with the people's sentiments.
"We, the political parties, must take all the responsibility for the incidents of the Gen Z movement," he stated. "It's a miracle that a party was formed and reached this point within just five months. The people trusted us and pushed us forward, but we could not fulfil their demands."
According to Pariyar, although the public reacted strongly against corruption, nepotism, misgovernance, and incompetent leadership, the parties could not accelerate the pace of reform. "I don't claim that we have done everything well. We believe that politics cannot succeed without discipline and clear ideology," Pariyar said.
He mentioned that the public has long felt that they and their generation have been tied down by the state system, emphasizing that the core essence of the Gen Z movement is the desire for change.
"The Gen Z established the idea that one person should not be in leadership repeatedly. They also abolished the system of secrecy and cover-up that parties were imposing on state institutions," he added. He said that the Gen Z movement merely rejected the old political practices, and now it is the responsibility of the political parties to establish a new system.
"Corruption, nepotism, misgovernance—the public has already rejected all these things. Now, it is our job to establish the new system. We are ready to cooperate with everyone for the benefit of the country and the people," Pariyar clarified.
