Citizens See Government Through Police Behavior, Says PM Sushila Karki
Kathmandu. Prime Minister Sushila Karki has stated that citizens see their government in the face and behavior of the police. Speaking at the oath-taking ceremony of the 1-183rd group of Police Inspector Basic Training held in Kathmandu on Monday, she said that the public forms their perception of the state based on the decisions and conduct of the police, and reminded everyone that no one is above the law.
She said, "Citizens will see their government in your faces and your behavior. The public will form their opinion of the state based on your decisions and conduct. Therefore, always remember that no one is above the law, but the officers responsible for implementing the law must also possess a sense of courtesy and humanity. You are the first door on the journey of justice."
Similarly, she mentioned that the correct implementation of the law is only possible if investigations are impartial, honest, and professional, noting that she observed this closely during her long service in the judiciary.
She added, "During my long tenure in the judiciary, I have seen this closely. The correct implementation of the law is possible only when the investigation is impartial, honest, and professional." During the same event, Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal expressed his belief that the words of the oath taken today will always serve as a reminder of their responsibilities.
He further stated that they have reached the stage of taking the oath after acquiring the conduct, behavior, education, and skills required as members of a disciplined organization.
He said, "I believe the words of the oath you have taken today will always keep you aware of your responsibilities. May the words and spirit of the oath become meaningful through your behavior; you have already acquired the conduct, behavior, education, and skills to be followed as a member of a disciplined organization."
