Supreme Court to Hear Petition Against House Elections Today
Kathmandu: Former Members of Parliament (MPs) have filed a supplementary petition in the Supreme Court to stop the House of Representatives elections. The hearing for this case is scheduled for today.
The petition was filed with signatures from 65 Nepali Congress MPs (including 8 previous ones) and three other MPs. It raises concerns about protecting the Constitution and the legality of the elections.
Filed through the legal representative of former Attorney General Khamba Bahadur Khati, the petition argues that the Prime Minister and the current government were appointed unconstitutionally. Therefore, it seeks to stop the elections conducted under their leadership.
Earlier, on Mangsir 23, eight Congress MPs filed a petition, and on Mangsir 10, 75 UML MPs filed a petition asking to restore the Parliament. In the initial hearing, the court asked for written answers from the President and the Prime Minister.
Now, a total of 143 former MPs from Congress, UML, and other parties are working together to demand the restoration of Parliament. This move is expected to have a major impact on the upcoming elections from both political and legal perspectives.
