Party Will Not Fight Election with Deuba’s Signature Anymore: Gagan Thapa
Kathmandu: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has unequivocally stated that the party will not contest the upcoming election under the signature of the current party President, Sher Bahadur Deuba.
He made it clear that a special general convention will be held within the stipulated time as per the party statute, and the decision will be rectified and submitted to the Election Commission with the signature of the newly elected party president.
In a post shared on Facebook, General Secretary Thapa asserted that there is now no alternative to a special general convention.
He noted that he had been repeatedly questioned by fellow party members since the morning, asking, "Is the party going to contest the election with the signature of the current President?" to which he replied, "No."
Explaining his stance, Thapa stated, "It is clear – now, a special general convention will be held within the timeframe as per the statute. A new president will be elected from there.
The decision, rectified with the signature of the new president, will be sent to the Election Commission. The party will contest the election with a new policy and leadership, and under that new signature."
He emphasized that this is the very reason why they had been calling for a general convention before the election, concluding his message by urging everyone to be clear and not be in a state of confusion.
