MP Nisha Dangi Questions Parliament Chair Wood Imports
Kathmandu. Rastriya Swatantra Party MP Nisha Dangi has questioned which country's wood was used in the new parliament building. Speaking at Wednesday's House of Representatives meeting, she asked which country the wood for the parliament chairs came from, while expressing serious concern over the annual import of billions of rupees worth of wood products despite Nepal's significant forestry potential.
Emphasizing that the state's policy must be clear regarding the promotion of domestic production, she questioned the government about a situation where files are halted for extracting domestic wood, yet Letters of Credit (LC) are easily opened for foreign wood.
She said, "We are moving into the new parliament building within two to three days. Which country's wood was used to make the chairs that the Speaker and we MPs will be sitting on? Because Nepal's own wood is not being properly utilized, billions of rupees worth of wood products are being imported annually.
Today, files are stalled to extract domestic wood, but LCs are easily opened to bring in foreign wood. What kind of policy is this? I am not saying we should clear all the forests, but we must make proper use of the natural resources we have. Therefore, this dependency must stop, and it must begin right here from this parliament building."
