Restrictions Lifted on Former PM KP Sharma Oli

Kathmandu, Poush 21: The movement restrictions imposed on former Prime Minister and Chairman of the Nepal Communist Party (UML), KP Sharma Oli, have been lifted.

The inquiry commission formed to investigate the incidents of last Bhadra 23 and 24 has removed the provisions that prohibited the former Prime Minister from traveling abroad and required prior approval to leave the Kathmandu Valley.

A meeting of the commission held today made this decision. Commission member and spokesperson Bigyan Raj Sharma informed that the restrictions were lifted as the questioning regarding his actions as Prime Minister during those incidents has been completed.

“Regarding the investigation and inquiry into the incidents of Bhadra 23 and 24, a decision was made in the meeting on Ashwin 12 to prohibit the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who was within the scope of the investigation, from traveling abroad and leaving the Kathmandu Valley without the commission's approval,” the commission's decision states.

“Since the inquiry and other understanding regarding his actions as Prime Minister during those incidents have been completed by this commission, the justification for the decision preventing his foreign travel and departure from the Valley has ended, and it has been lifted.”

The commission's team had reached Chairman Oli's residence in Gundu on Sunday to record his statement. Chairman Oli submitted a written statement to the commission's team.

Earlier, the commission already recorded a statement from the then Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak. According to spokesperson Sharma, statements have also been taken from the heads of the four security agencies and the heads of the District Administration Office, among others.

“The work of taking statements is almost finished; the commission is working rapidly,” spokesperson Sharma said. “Details have been collected by meeting with those directly concerned with the Gen-Z movement and other related individuals.”

According to the commission's mandate, after the initial three-month period ended, it has been extended for one additional month.
