Obama Criticizes Trump Administration as a 'Clown Show'
Kathmandu — Former U.S. President Barack Obama has characterized American politics under the second Trump administration as a "clown show." During an interview, Obama stated that recent statements coming from the White House have left the majority of Americans feeling concerned.
Speaking Saturday on Brian Tyler Cohen’s "No Lie" podcast, Obama expressed strong objections to a controversial video recently posted on President Trump’s "Truth Social" account. The video depicted former President Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama as monkeys.
Despite widespread criticism from political parties on both sides, Trump has refused to apologize for the video. The White House claimed the content was posted due to a staff "error" and removed it shortly after. "I think it's important to recognize that the majority of the American people find such behavior deeply disturbing," Obama said.
Interviewer Cohen expressed concern over the decline in political discourse and the administration's comments labeling two American citizens killed during immigration enforcement in Minneapolis as "domestic terrorists." In response, Obama said such language is used merely as a "distraction" and that most citizens still believe in decency, politeness, and kindness.
"There is a kind of spectacle happening on social media and television right now," he said. "People who previously felt there should be dignity and respect for the office now seem to have no sense of shame. That dignity has now been lost."
Obama remarked that since the Republican Party gained control of Congress, they haven't been able to institutionalize anything other than "one big, beautiful bill." "They have poured massive amounts of money into the immigration agenda, cut taxes for the wealthy, and are now trying to overturn established rules, norms, and laws. That is the easy part," he said.
Recalling his own time in office, Obama added, "When I was president, I also could have issued unilateral orders to withhold funds from states that didn't vote for me or send the military to threaten their governors. But that is contrary to the way our democracy works. Just because our job is a bit difficult doesn't mean we should be discouraged." — ANI
