Kathmandu – The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) has started the reconstruction of the Traffic Control Room at Singha Durbar’s Baggi Khana premises, which was destroyed during the Gen Z movement on September 8 and 9.
The reconstruction work began on Saturday under the leadership of NRNA Vice President and Disaster Management Committee Coordinator, Manoj Kumar Shrestha “Gorkhali.”
Before commencing the work, the team held discussions with senior police officials, including AIG Dan Bahadur Karki, DIG Om Rana, Traffic Police Chief SSP Nawaraj Adhikari, and DSP Amarendra Prasad Singh, to assess the situation.
According to Coordinator Manoj Gorkhali, the technical reconstruction of the central Traffic Control Room, which manages traffic across all districts of the country, is estimated to cost around NPR 10 million.
NRNA President Mahesh Kumar Shrestha announced that the association will bear all the expenses required for the reconstruction. He also stated that Vice President Gorkhali has been entrusted with the responsibility of coordinating with the Traffic Police and urged NRNA activists in Kathmandu to engage in social service activities.
On the first day, participants included former NRNA President Binod Kunwar, Advisor Umesh Pudasaini, Women Coordinator and Disaster Co-coordinator Rashmi Thapa, Youth Coordinator Bhimsen Thapa, Member Secretary Dharmaraj Giri, former NCC Qatar Vice President Uttam Gurung, Youth Entrepreneur Committee President and social worker Narayan Bhandari, as well as members Pradeep Khanal, Manish Upreti, and Nirajan Khatri, among others.
The first day of work began with painting and essential structural preparations.
It is expected that once the Baggi Khana Traffic Control Room is rebuilt with modern facilities, traffic management across the country will become more effective, advanced, and scientific.
