No Room for Government to Be ‘Derailed’ from Zen Z Movement Mandate: Purna Basnet

Purna Basnet, Head of the Publicity Department of the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal, has stated that the government has no room to be derailed from carrying out the mandate given by the Zen Z movement.

Sharing his views on the current political situation, Basnet emphasized that the government led by Prime Minister Sushila Karki, which has received a mandate to implement the agenda of a directly elected executive, must steadfastly move forward while upholding the mandate obtained through the movement.

Basnet said, “The Congress–Communist rule had oppressed the people. Every citizen knew that corruption was widespread in the country. Many believed that the current political practice of parliamentarians becoming ministers was not right.

However, the Zen Z movement has provided a golden opportunity to overturn the existing power structure and change the rules of political play in the country.”

He argued that no Nepali citizen should have to take to the streets because criminals and corrupt individuals are not being punished.

He further stated that it is natural for the Congress–Communist parties, which have long exploited power, to find the current political situation unbearable, and urged the government to act wisely and with restraint to show the country a bright political future.

Basnet stressed the need to guarantee the rule of law in the country. He highlighted that, unlike during the Congress–Communist rule, the current government’s administration should not be flawed, vindictive, or biased.

He also noted that the Zen Z movement was a critique of the Congress–Communist governance style, which rewarded some while punishing others for the same offenses.

Basnet underlined that citizens want a government capable of investigating and taking action against all crimes, impunity, and corruption committed under the shield of power, and of strengthening the federal democratic republic. He stressed that this responsibility should begin with the current government.
