Night Bus Service Launched in Kathmandu Valley
Kathmandu — Sajha Yatayat has started nighttime bus services in the Kathmandu Valley from today. The service will operate from 8 PM to 11 PM and will initially run with 7 buses.
From this evening, in the first phase, night electric bus services will begin on these routes: Lagankhel to Budhanilkantha and back, and Thankot to the Airport and back.
Buses will be available every 20 minutes according to the schedule. On the southern route, buses will run from Lagankhel through Patan Hospital, Alka, Norvic, Prasuti Griha, Trauma Center, Bir Hospital, Kanti Hospital, and Teaching Hospital up to Budhanilkantha. The return route from Budhanilkantha will pass through Maharajgunj, Panipokhari, Lazimpat, Jamal, and Thapathali before reaching Lagankhel.
On the east–west route, buses will operate from Thankot through Satungal, Kalanki, Kalimati, Tripureshwor, Sundhara, New Road, Jamal, and Baneshwor to the International Airport. The return buses will travel from the Airport via Tinkune, Minbhawan, Babarmahal, and Thapathali back to Thankot. New Road area will be the main transit point where passengers can change routes.
For passenger safety, each bus will be equipped with 4 CCTV cameras, and Kathmandu Metropolitan City will deploy one municipal police officer on every bus. According to Acting Chief Dangol, the service will be evaluated after the initial three months, and improvements and expansion will follow based on its effectiveness.
The night bus service is expected to especially benefit workers, women, and people who work late hours by providing safer and more convenient transportation.
