NFSP strongly objects to denial of burial for the deceased

Kathmandu: The Nepal Federal Socialist Party has expressed deep sorrow, outrage, and protest after it was revealed that a deceased person was forcibly prevented from being buried in a community forest in Baiteshwor Rural Municipality–8, Dolakha district, solely because they were a follower of the Christian faith.

In a press statement issued by the party’s central chairman and former state minister for home affairs, Mohammad Rizwan Ansari, the incident was strongly condemned as inhumane and a violation of the spirit of Nepal’s secular constitution and human rights.

The statement reads:
"Death itself is a deeply painful event. But denying a burial due to one’s religion, and forcing the bereaved family to return from the burial ground — this is not just insensitivity; it is barbarity."

According to the party, such behavior strikes at the very soul of Nepal — a multi-ethnic, multilingual, multicultural, and secular nation. It is a fundamental right of every citizen to be laid to rest according to their religious beliefs, customs, and practices. However, this incident has brutally attacked that right.

The Nepal Federal Socialist Party called the incident a shameful stain on the federal democratic republic and demanded that those responsible be swiftly identified and brought to justice.

“To maintain religious tolerance, coexistence, and mutual respect in society, we all must raise our voices in unity against such acts. If we fail to honor the deceased, our very humanity is at risk,” the statement added.

The party also noted that this painful incident has insulted the entire Christian community and urged the government to take concrete steps to end such discrimination permanently.

Expressing deep condolences to the grieving family and wishing for eternal peace for the departed soul, the party offered heartfelt tribute to the deceased.md-ansari-1753086713.jpg
