New Communist Party Pledges Scientific Leadership Handover, Age Limit
Kathmandu – Ten leftist political parties, including the CPN (Maoist Centre) and the CPN (Unified Socialist), have merged to form the Nepali Communist Party in a unity declaration conference.
Former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has been unanimously selected as the party's Coordinator, and Madhav Kumar Nepal as the Co-coordinator.
The newly formed party's manifesto lays out a framework for scientific socialism as its strategic goal. Key policy commitments include establishing a scientific method for leadership development and handover, setting an age limit and tenure for party officials, and ensuring inclusive representation in all committees: 35% women, 20% Gen-Z youth, 15% Dalit, and 5% Muslim communities.
The party has also committed to strengthening the current constitution, improving the federal structure, and considering a reduction in the number of local level representatives.
Crucially, the party vows to form a high-level commission to investigate the assets of all individuals who have held public office and ensure severe punishment for the corrupt, as part of a 23-point commitment to end corruption, irregularity, and delay in governance.
The party aims for rapid economic development based on a three-pillar economy (public, collective/cooperative, and private sectors) focused on creating employment using domestic resources and labor.
