Nepali Congress Special Convention Preparation
Kathmandu. With only two days remaining before the special convention of the Nepali Congress, various district working committees of the party have issued statements calling for participation in Kathmandu.
It has been reported that by Friday morning, 36 districts had formally issued statements for participation in the historic second special convention, which will be held on January 11 and 12 (Poush 27 and 28) at Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu.
Jagdishwor Narsingh KC, coordinator of the Special Convention Mass Mobilization and Procession Management Committee, informed that the number of districts and leaders calling for participation in the special convention is increasing daily.
The districts that have issued statements include Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Kavrepalanchok, Sindhupalchok, Dhankuta, Bhojpur, Bara, Kaski, Banke, Rolpa, Arghakhanchi, Palpa, Gorkha, Tanahun, Nuwakot, Rasuwa, Lamjung, Udayapur, and Gulmi, among others.
Stating that the special convention is indispensable, Nepali Congress Palpa District President Himal Shrestha said the convention is necessary to address widespread public disappointment and ensure effective youth participation in accordance with the spirit of the 'Gen-Z movement,' while ending hostile political behavior and promoting friendly competition in the upcoming elections.
Similarly, Nepali Congress Bara District Secretaries Rajesh Rauniyar and Bhaiyaram Prasad Yadav issued a joint statement formally calling for participation. The statement mentions that the main objective of the special convention is to build a more united, energetic, and transformation-oriented Nepali Congress by keeping the public voice and current needs in mind, while urging all representatives to be active for its success.
Nepali Congress Gulmi District President Khildhoj Panthi also stated that the special convention is essential to transform the party in a timely manner within the changing political context.
Meanwhile, convention representatives from various districts of Karnali Province have already departed for Kathmandu. The mobilization committee informed that representatives from all provinces, including Sudurpashchim, are preparing to arrive in Kathmandu by reserving buses.
The special convention has been organized because of the need for the Nepali Congress to reach out to the people with a new form and new agenda in the upcoming House of Representatives elections, following the changed political environment after the 'Gen-Z movement.'
According to the special convention secretariat, while 54 percent of the total convention representatives initially signed to demand the special convention, the number of supporters has continued to grow.
