Nepal Rastra Bank Urges Banks to Operate Essential Services Amid Restrictions

Kathmandu, 26 Bhadra: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has urged banks and financial institutions to operate essential banking and digital payment services with a limited number of staff. The central bank has instructed all licensed banks, development banks, finance companies, and payment service providers to ensure business continuity.
In a notice released today, NRB mentioned that the directive was issued considering the prohibition order announced by the Nepali Army on 25 Bhadra.
The notice stated, “Banks and financial institutions must operate their critical systems with a limited number of staff to provide essential banking and digital payment services. Other systems should be managed remotely based on risk assessment,” according to Nepal Rastra Bank.
Additionally, the notice requested all institutions to inform the public about the branches, ATMs, and services that are operational through their websites and social media platforms.
