Acting NC President Urges Election Commission to Resolve Party Dispute Swiftly
Kathmandu — Acting President of the Nepali Congress, Purna Bahadur Khadka, has urged the Election Commission to swiftly resolve the internal dispute within the party based on the Commission’s past decisions and established precedents.
Khadka, accompanied by a majority of office-bearers and members of the Central Committee elected from the party’s 14th General Convention, visited the Election Commission today and submitted party documents, requesting a prompt resolution to the issue.
He clarified that any decision on the party’s official status that goes against the Election Commission’s previous rulings and precedents on party splits would not be acceptable.
Stating that they approached the Commission in response to reports published in various media outlets regarding the Nepali Congress, Khadka submitted details to Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari, including information that 885 general convention representatives had withdrawn their signatures related to the proposed special general convention.
Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala expressed confidence that the decision on the party’s official status would be made in accordance with democratic norms. He informed that the entire Central Committee had jointly appeared before the Commission to make this request.
Koirala remarked that official recognition cannot be obtained by unilaterally announcing an election program at Tundikhel, and expressed belief that the Commission’s decision on the Congress dispute would follow the same principle.
Receiving the documents, Acting Chief Election Commissioner Bhandari stated that the Commission would make its decision in accordance with legal procedures and established norms. He also urged active participation in all electoral programs.
