Sunil Sharma Urges Government to Prioritize Equality in National Health Policy
Kathmandu. Nepali Congress leader and medical entrepreneur Dr. Sunil Sharma has pointed out that a health policy is necessary for citizens of all levels. He also urged the new government to facilitate kidney and liver transplant services.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday involving Durga Prasai and others, Dr. Sharma stated that free kidney and liver transplant services should be provided to impoverished citizens across the country.
He said, "Everyone should receive the rights provided by the constitution. Our health policy must also be equal. However, there is discrimination even in the services of hospitals run by the government or by individuals close to the government. There is no such thing as poor or rich in health services. Facilitation should be provided to kidney patients in the purchase of medicine itself." He further added, "We want to perform free kidney and liver transplants through the private sector."
While sharing that the government has repeatedly caused trouble when working in favor of the poor, he stated that the current two-thirds majority government should formulate a health policy that applies equally.
Sharma claimed that the transplant center in the hospital he operates is among the top five best in the country. He informed that 72 transplants have been successfully completed so far.
Dr. Sharma stated that the compulsion to go to Gulf countries must end, proper management for the poor and the roads must be ensured, and work must be done on development and construction.
He pointed out that there should be a proper investigation regarding Sudan Gurung and that the facts should come out. He stated that if Gurung has engaged in "malpractice," the truth will be revealed.
